Regular dishwashing soap vs Natural baby bottle cleanser. What is the difference?
The main difference is the exclusion of nasties coming into contact with your baby's bottles and accessories. It's a safer alternative to dishwashing soap which contains harsh ingredients (listed below) that's best avoided.
SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) & SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) Both are foaming agents and detergents. Known to be skin irritants and could be contaminated with 1,4 dioxane, a known carcinogen
EDTA (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid)Preservative. Known to be a skin irritant and a penetration enhancer which breaks the skin's protective barrier making it easier for potentially harmful ingredients in the formula to sink deeper into tissues
ParabensPreservative. Known to disrupt hormone function by mimicking oestrogen
Artificial fragranceA catch-all term that can stand for thousands of different ingredients, including phthalates known to disrupt hormone function
PhenoxyethanolPreservative. Infant oral exposure can affect the nervous system function. Also associated with eczema and allergic reactions
But the soap will be rinsed off anyway. So what's the problem?
That's a valid point. But this doesn't mean it's the best choice for your baby. You can still take the “safe not sorry” route.
If a bottle is not washed properly, chemicals from the dishwashing soap could leach onto it and when heated with milk, these potentially harmful chemicals could contaminate the bottle.
